The 2025 Fiji-PNG Business Mission marked a major milestone in bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Fiji and Papua New Guinea. Hosted by Investment Fiji in March 2025, the mission was led by Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, and focused on deepening economic engagement with one of Fiji’s largest trading partners.
A high-level Fijian delegation, comprising government representatives and over 20 business leaders, engaged with PNG counterparts across Port Moresby and Lae. The mission facilitated direct dialogue with industry leaders and chambers of commerce, and opened doors for strategic joint ventures in sectors such as agribusiness, manufacturing, and services.
Kamikamica highlighted PNG’s economic recovery and growing consumer market as key opportunities for Fijian exporters. In his keynote remarks, he noted that the mission “sends a strong signal that we are serious about expanding Fijian business presence in the Pacific.”
The mission also served to reaffirm the 2014 MSG (Melanesian Spearhead Group) Trade Agreement and explored ways to resolve logistical challenges affecting intra-Pacific trade. Business-to-business (B2B) sessions allowed exporters and investors to discuss customs procedures, financing, and opportunities in PNG’s special economic zones.
For PNG, the mission reinforced Port Moresby’s growing stature as a regional business hub. PNG’s Ministry of International Trade and Investment welcomed the initiative and pledged to streamline regulatory requirements for Fijian businesses seeking to enter the market.
The mission concluded with a joint communiqué committing both sides to work toward a bilateral trade framework and support regional private sector development.
