Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) recently received support through a partnership between the Australian Defence Force (ADF), the Australian government PacificAus Sports program, and Cricket Australia (CA).

Representatives from the ADF presented approximately 20 boxes of Cricket Australia merchandise to Cricket PNG in a handover ceremony held at Amini Park, Port Moresby.

The initiative, made possible through PacificAus Sports, is “a clear demonstration of continued collaboration between the Australian government and PNG to grow and support sport across the Pacific,” they said in a statement.

Cricket PNG CEO, Richard Done, said: "Thank you to Cricket Australia, the ADF and the Australian government for supporting Cricket PNG.”

“Getting sufficient equipment and clothing are ongoing challenges for us, so this donation is incredibly valuable. It will make a real difference to our programs and to the communities who benefit from them. We’ll ensure it reaches a very worthy group of people," he added.

Key representatives from both the ADF and Cricket PNG, including LTCOL Alisha Hewett and SGT Cameron Clancy, who facilitated the handover on behalf of the ADF, attended the event.

It also marked the growing bond between Australia and PNG through sport, especially cricket, and showed how shared values and teamwork continue to strengthen ties and open doors for emerging athletes and programs in the Pacific.
