The Rotary Club of Lae Huon Gulf has once again demonstrated the power of partnerships in driving community impact, with the success of the 2024 Rotary Gala significantly boosted by contributions from corporate supporters like Westpac.
At the heart of this success was the auction of a signed Queensland Maroons jersey, generously donated by Westpac. The jersey, signed by rugby league legend Mal Meninga, fetched an impressive K12,000 during the Gala’s live auction. The event, held on June 1st, 2024, under the thrilling "007 James Bond Casino Royale" theme, saw enthusiastic guests rallying behind the auction, reinforcing the spirit of community collaboration that underpins Rotary’s mission.
President of the Rotary Club of Lae, Piero Banchetti emphasised the importance of collaborations and highlighted the areas to which the support is going to saying;
“Proceeds from the event have gone towards vital community projects, including the purchase of school desks for Christ the King Primary School and Labu Butu Elementary School. Additionally, funds have supported critical healthcare initiatives, such as the procurement of a specialised Blood Storage Fridge for Angau Memorial Hospital’s Blood Bank—a much-needed resource that will ensure a stable supply of life-saving blood transfusions. The fridge is expected to arrive and be handed over by February 2025. Rotary is also working towards the repair and maintenance of the Blood Bus, previously donated to the hospital”, said Mr Banchetti.
Westpac’s Acting CEO Warren Bobin commended the strong partnership with Rotary, stating:
"Westpac has a long-standing commitment to supporting initiatives that create lasting impact in our communities. The success of the 2024 Rotary Gala shows what can be achieved when businesses and service organizations work together. We are proud to have contributed to such meaningful projects that will benefit schools and healthcare services in Lae."
Recently, the framed Queensland jersey was officially handed over to the successful bidder marking, another milestone in this ongoing collaboration with the Rotary Club of Lae Huon Gulf. The club emphasised that Westpac’s support has not only strengthened financial outcomes but also inspired others to contribute to the community.
With such impactful initiatives underway, Westpac and the Rotary Club of Lae Huon Gulf continue to build a legacy of positive change, proving that collective efforts can truly transform lives.
