November is Men's Health Awareness Month, and Santos was again proud to join the global community in commemorating the ‘Movember’ campaign and raising awareness of men's health issues.
Dr. Suresh Raghunath, an oncology super-specialist and head of the Pacific International Hospital Oncology Unit, who has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating various forms of cancer was invited by Santos to speak about prostate cancer and other main types of cancer affecting men.
Over 100 Santos employees, including staff at the Port Moresby office and the Santos field operations, were present in person or participated virtually in the discussions.
It was a valuable opportunity for staff to learn and ask questions about men’s health and the various cancer risks involved.
PNG Cancer Foundation’s Executive Manager, Kimberly Kapigeno was also present during the men’s health talk session.
Santos prioritizes the health and well-being of its employees, focusing on fitness and maximizing individual health while reducing the risk of preventable diseases.
Dr. Flora Jethro, Medical Officer at Santos says the Medical Services team provides regular toolbox sessions along with medical pit stops for various health checks including blood pressure; further assessment and treatments are provided if required.
“Beyond the initial medical examination, periodic assessments are conducted to check physical status, in addition to blood tests, breathing assessments, and hearing assessments. For example, if it is found that weight or blood fats are elevated, further input, support, and treatment are offered.
She added that specific focus is also given to aspects relating to both men’s and women’s health and well-being, and definitive tests and treatments can be provided where necessary.
"Access to healthcare also extends to family members. The Medical Service is also capable of ensuring that the relevant vaccinations are kept up to date for the workforce," said Dr. Jethro.
Santos continues to prioritize the good health of its workforce and the communities in which it operates.
