Senior executives from Newcrest flew into Kavieng to pay Governor Sir Julius Chan and his administration a courtesy visit.
Sandeep Biswas, the managing director and CEO, was joined by Stanley Komunt, the national manager, Tim Bryson, the strategic engagement manager, and Felix Kipalan, the environment, social, and government manager.
Discussions centred on mine life extension, alternative energy sources of power, Lihir ring road upgrading, education assistance through the revisiting of the Tax credit scheme and other major infrastructure development projects.
Governor Sir Julius was subsequently presented with a unique picture frame including six engravings depicting coastal vistas of New Ireland with Dutch ships in the foreground.
François Valentin created the engravings, which were published in Amsterdam in 1977.
They are thought to be more than 290 years old.
Sir Julius was ecstatic to learn of this significant historical event.
