Walter Schnaubelt, the country's new Civil Aviation Minister, is committed to improving the country's aviation industry.

It is reported that the new minister is interested in knowing what hurdles and difficulties are being faced by the aviation sector participants so that they can adjust and improve within a short period of time, according to him.

Because the industry is a critical area in the government, he said the COVID-19 epidemic has presented many obstacles, and the process of improving it will be difficult.

“I understand the responsibility before me and I know there is a lot of challenges before us and I think it is important that we all in the industry as key stakeholders stay focused and work together effectively, diligently and proactively to try to achieve some of the milestones that are lacking behind,” Mr Schnaubelt said.

He informed key stakeholders that he will be looking for their advice and urged them not to "sugarcoat" things, but to tell him the reality about the industry's concerns and challenges in the most direct and honest way possible.

“The purpose of stakeholders giving the raw and honest issues and challenges is for them to know what the real issue is and government can supply the necessary remedies to fix it.”

“We need to find a mutual ground to see how best we could deliver this and more importantly do not lose sight of our position and our responsibility of serving the people of PNG because the aviation industry owes it to the general public.”
