The Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) has welcomed the country’s Fishing Industry Association (FIA) as a funding partner.
According to Fishing Industry Association (PNG) president and chairman Sylvester Pokajam, this partnership was an achievement for them to improve and to raise their commitment to the conservation of the ecosystem and to protect people who are working in the industry.
He said that to do this, several approaches such as the marine litter and fishing gear management practices and labour onboard improvement should be implemented.
“This partnership is also a great opportunity to collaborate with global stakeholders to ensure sustainability, transparency and traceability in the seafood supply chain,” he said.
Established in 1991, the FIA provides a voice for the fishing industry and encourages promotion in the country.
