Investing in the education of your children or your organizations brightest potential future leaders is an important investment.

It gives you the edge that is vital in keeping abreast of changes and on par in a fast changing, interconnected world filled with challenges, opportunities and innovative technology that can change in an instant.

Finding the right university or college is another vital factor. A prestigious university that provides a serene, friendly and engaging setting bridled with lively tones of respect for cultural diversity, etiquette and a somewhat nerving hold of patience and service, coupled with a rich and diverse educational history.

There is one such prestigious university that has a rich history of educating and molding some of the world’s top leaders – the Asia Pacific University (APU).

I recently met a fellow Papua New Guinean, one of a few who have attended the Asia Pacific University located at Beppu City, Oita Prefecture on Kyusho Island, Japan.

Desmond Nambri and a colleague were engrossed in work, papers and documents stacked on the table near the poolside, when we met. We had missed the opportunity earlier and agreed to meet on the go.

Desmond is an APU alumni. He attended APU from August 2017 until September 2019 successfully attaining an accredited Masters in Business Administration.

He was identified and sponsored by his employer, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (DAL) through the Cocoa and Coconut Research Institute, based at Taulo in East New Britain province.

“DAL saw me in their plans for future leadership program,” Nambri said.

He added that his experience of studying at APU in Japan had opened up many opportunities. There is a lot we can learn from Japan.

So, why Japan and why APU?

Japan is not only the world’s third largest economic center but is one of the most popular travel destinations thanks to its rich traditional and modern culture combined with beautiful landscapes. The country also prides in itself in cutting-edge technology and maintaining one of the highest safety records found anywhere in the world. It is the ideal location to earn your university degree.

Japanese culture is still relevant in modern society. During your time here, you will be able to visit famous temples and shrines of cities such as popular tourist destinations such as Kyoto and Nara.

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) first opened its doors in 2000 thanks to collaboration between the Ritsumeikan Trust, Oita Prefecture, and Beppu City. With an entirely new multicultural learning environment consisting of half international students and half Japanese/domestic students, APU’s aim was to provide an international education that lead to the development of global leaders, working in a diverse range of fields and industries.

In these past eighteen years, this goal has not only been reached but exceeded as APU now has over 10,000 alumni from over one hundred thirty countries and regions. Keep reading to learn more about the stories of APU alumni.

So, if you are looking for a prestigious Asian university that provides a seamless blend of modern and traditional culture, world-class cuisine, leading technology, safety, a dynamic student life and an accredited degree, you cannot go wrong with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU).

Desmond is testament to the quality education provided at APU.

He thanked the PNG Department of Agriculture and Livestock, Cocoa Board of PNG, JICA and the Cocoa and Coconut Research Institute (CCRI) for providing him the opportunity to study in Japan.

Desmond says: ‘I hope more students can go and study in Japan, as it is more in-tune with our way of life and provides better opportunities for development.
