To combat corruption, the Papua New Guinea parliament has passed legislation which establishes an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).
In 2015, constitutional establishments to establish an ICAC were passed but efforts to take this into full force lapsed - until the Marape government took over last year.
According to Police Minister Bryan Kramer, his office is looking forward to working with issues on corruption and money laundering, both in PNG and overseas.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister James Marape said that along with other legislation such as the Proceeds of Crime Act and the Whistleblower Act, this new measure can help strengthen the institutions of the country.
One of the forces behind this legislation, Attorney General Davis Steven, gave accolades for this new measure, adding that the house of parliament has the final decision to protect the country from unscrupulous endeavours.
