On November 5, ANZ opened its new corporate centre in Goroka.

Managing director, Mark Baker, said the new centre services its institutional and corporate clients in Eastern Highlands Province, putting special emphasis on the coffee export industry of the PNG. He also highlighted how Goroka has been at the height of the coffee export industry for decades, making a name for PNG.

He remarked that even if the ANZ model has changed, they still maintain their commercial and corporate presence.

Baker said, “And we’re still a major supporter of agriculture in general, whether it be coffee, whether it be palm oil, cocoa or tuna. But coffee is something which I believe, has such a promising future because of the quality of the product that comes out of PNG.”

Baker also added that local coffee buyers make up for a very huge and important part of the supply chain where they need a secure atmosphere for their banking needs. The facility provides such a service, never before seen in Goroka.

Furthermore, Eastern Highlands Governor Peter Numu expressed gratitude to ANZ for choosing Goroka, saying that the warm welcome of the people can bring about a safe environment where businesses can grow.

Bire Kimisopa and his wife, Governor Numu, Baker and Bank of PNG’s assistant governor of financial system stability, Ellison Pidik officially opened the building.
