Issue 3

September certainly marks the homestretch of the year, and for us here in PNG Business News, it’s time to deliver Issue 3 2024 – 132 pages full of the most insightful news, commentary, and information on the latest in Papua New Guinea’s business community.

Our cover story focuses on the Tolukuma Gold Mine, recently resurrected by Tolu Minerals in a sure boost for PNG’s economy. Our journalist Roselyn Erehe notes starting on page 64 how the mine, closed for care and maintenance in 2015, reopens with a goal of substantial gold production for the Woitape area of Goilala District, impacting all its neighboring communities.

Michael McWalter, our eminent oil and gas columnist, then writes about the British example for PNG to follow in its utilization of natural gas for the country’s benefit. Mick harkens to his days as a lad in his native United Kingdom in the 1950s to tell us, starting on page 10, the benefits and difficulties of harnessing natural gas as an economic driver for Papua New Guinea.

An interesting article by Professor Niki Alsford graces our magazine starting on page 24. Titled “Tourism Without Tourists: A Balancing Act in Papua New Guinea,” the professor shares how the country can be a prime destination for global travelers without compromising its pristine people, culture, and environment.

Finally, we feature the company PNG CR, which is leading efforts to promote “national content,” or the active involvement of local businesses, workforce, and investments in sectors like mining, oil and gas. This article, from page 58 onward, and others are sure to enlighten you, dear reader, on the top activities in the economy of PNG.
